Principal's Welcome Message

Dear Aviara Oaks Elementary School Students & Families:

Welcome to the 2008-2009 school year at Aviara Oaks Elementary School! Last year was an exciting, busy, and positive year and I am looking forward to building on our momentum as we move into a new year.

I am excited to introduce a new school spirit program that will work nicely in conjunction with our academic Student of the Month program and our positive behavior Caught Being Good program called AOE Eagle Spirit. Each Friday when we will encourage students and staff to wear an AOE school shirt, the student council will count the number of students in each class wearing their school shirts on Friday morning, and the winning class in each grade will be awarded a spirit trophy to proudly display for the week.

We will continue with year two of the Project Wisdom program, the daily morning announcements are a great way to promote a positive atmosphere on campus, inspiring each child to “Make it a great day” by making good choices in work ethic and behavior.

Although the State has not yet released our STAR results from spring testing, I am hopeful that our scores will reflect the hard work of the students, teachers, and families of AOE. Our biggest strength at AOE is our ability to work together to support a positive learning environment and I am proud that the PTA will again be able to fund Science teachers and Physical Education teachers, as well as continue with the Meet the Masters Art program. The PTA also supports numerous student activities through the year which enrich our school as well as organize parental involvement that is second to none! I am also honored to share a tremendous investment in educational technology, thanks to donations through The Friends of Aviara Middle and Elementary, (F.A.M.E). During the summer SMART Boards are being installed in each 4th and 5th grade classroom as well as the lower computer lab. SMART technology is an interactive educational tool and our teachers will be involved in staff development to facilitate their best use. In addition to the hardware, FAME donations will also allow us a unique opportunity to employ an Instructional Technology Resource Teacher, who will facilitate instructional technology in classrooms for one semester. Your generous financial support of our PTA and FAME are strong elements of the positive collaborative setting AOE enjoys.

Our current school enrollment is 730 students which necessitates staggered starting and ending times again this year. We are carefully working on student placement in classrooms with consideration of many factors including the balance of boys and girls, academic performance levels, and special needs of individual learners. Be assured that all of Aviara Oaks Elementary School’s teachers are highly qualified and enthusiastic educators with the desire to provide every child with a meaningful and supportive learning experience. Please note that our school office will be closed on Tuesday, August 26 so that we will have the ability to finalize class placements which will be available at 4:00 p.m. on August 26th. As the year progresses, information will be routinely updated and disseminated via the school website, email “blasts,” automated voice messages, and weekly teacher newsletters. Please help us to ensure effective communications by keeping your contact information current with the office and frequently checking the school website. The Aviara Oaks Elementary School staff and I are looking forward to the opening of school and wish all of our students a very successful and enjoyable 2008-2009 school year.

Very Truly Yours,

Kimberly Ann Huesing
