Purpose
The purpose of the Aviara Oaks School Site Council is to provide a shared decision making process that results in high quality education for our children and a positive, supportive and educational environment for students, staff, parents and community.
Membership
The council shall be composed of the principal and representatives of: teachers elected by teachers at the school; other school personnel elected by other school personnel at the school; and parents and community members not employed by the district, elected by such parents.
Elections
Elections for members of the School Site Council are held in the spring of each year. Members will serve for a term of two years and may be re-elected for two-year terms thereafter. Interested parties may nominate themselves for the Site Council. Nominees need to be parents of an AOE student or a staff member (except the community member), be available to attend meetings and actively participate in Site Council activities. Ballots describing parent candidates are sent to all families.
Meetings
The Aviara Oaks Elementary School Site Council usually meets the first Monday of the month during the school year. The meetings are held in AOM Library @ 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. The meetings are open to all AOE community members and interested citizens. Our Site Council works in a collaborative and shared-leadership structure that supports our school through: consensus and commitment to our goals; better decisions and involvement in decisions; increased staff/parent satisfaction and productivity; and improved communication.
School Improvement Plan
Each year, members of the Aviara Oaks Elementary School Site Council, analize where we are as a school, what we hope to accomplish, and how we wish to proceed. We review our mission, shared beliefs, strategic policies, objectives and strategies in light of current and anticipated needs. Through this process, an annual Single Plan for Student Achievement is developed that guides instructional funding and improvements for the following academic year. |
