Program Info
Every
Thursday of the school year. We collect plastic bottles and aluminum
cans
Drop off from 7:45 - 8:20 am every Thursday morning. Proceeds fund specialty teachers.
If it’s raining we will not collect so please SAVE your items for the following week. If it’s threatening to rain and not yet wet, the recycling volunteers will still collect so please check the curbs to see if the recycling bins are out. If they aren’t, that will signify items won’t be collected.

our $6,000.00 goal!

Our extended electronic recycling program is going strong and 100 students have entered to win the $50.00 prize.
UPDATE: the first box of electronic items was worth $160.00 and we have another one that just shipped with one more box 1/2 full. So I think it's safe to say we should bring in at least $400.00 extra for the year! This means we'll end the year way over our $6,000.00 goal and you all made this happen!
So save those items that are just gathering dust and bring them in with your bottles and cans every Thursday for the remainder of the school year. Additional boxes will be on the curb each week and there will be a box in the office so you can drop your items off any school day. And remember, celebrate Earth Day everyday!
Amazing Facts
It takes almost 3.5 quarts of oil to produce one laser cartridge. That is almost one gallon of ice cream!
A cartridge takes at least 1,000 years to decompose. ½ gallon of oil is saved each time a laser cartridge is remanufactured.
It is estimated 500 million phones could be headed for landfills if they’re not recycled. |
ATTENTION: The recycling center is making it mandatory for all plastic bottles to have lids taken off due to problems they’re having with their machines. Please start telling all your friends to still include their plastic tops (as we make money by weight so they’re important to include) but to have them off their bottles whenever possible. |
Save your LEXMARK, DELL and HP printer ink cartridges for recycling beginning January, 2007
Each Thursday beginning in January, the recycling volunteers will collect ink cartridges along with cans and bottles. Each cartridge is worth a $3.00 credit at Staples for the school to use to off set costs. This is a great way to expand the recycling program, bring more resources to school, and help the environment! If you can't bring your cartridge on Thursday morning, you can drop them any time in the PTA box in the office. |
Recycling Facts
1. It takes about 500 years for an aluminum can to decompose in our landfills.
2. It takes 20 times more energy to make an aluminum can from new materials than from recycled materials.
3. One ton of recycled plastic saves 5,774 kwh of energy, 685 gallons of oil and 30 cubic yards of landfill space.
4. In addition, making one aluminum can out of recycled aluminum saves enough electricity to operate a TV for 3 hours and just 5 recycled plastic bottles makes enough fiberfill to stuff a ski jacket. |
