Bulletins
Friday Bulletins will be sent home with your child's work attached at the end of each week. Bulletins will give you up-to-date information on how your child is doing in school.  This report will notify you of any concerns that have arisen each week regarding class work, homework, and behavior.

Reading Counts
Reading Counts is a school-wide program designed to encourage students to read independently for entertainment, inspiration, and understanding.  Students may select books at or above their reading level to read at home for their nightly reading homework and at school during designated Reading Counts time. There are over 7,000 titles to choose from. A list of titles is available at the school library and on our school’s web page. Students should be certain to check if a book is on the list before they choose to read it, and more importantly, check that the book is appropriate to their age as well as reading comprehension level. An effort based independent reading grade for each month will be based on the following scale:

ADVANCED=25 points and up
PROFICIENT=24-19 points
BASIC=18-13 points
BELOW BASIC=12-7 points
FAR BELOW BASIC=Below 7 points

The Fourth Grade Book Club
Last year the fourth grade team started a book club for our students.  Participation is totally voluntary and does not affect the students’ academic or effort grade. Each month we select one title.  Students are responsible for obtaining a copy, reading it, and passing the Reading Counts test (a passing grade will count towards the Reading Counts program).  Students then come to one of the fourth grade classrooms at lunch time to discuss the book.  The students provide a $3.00 donation which pays for treats and small raffle prizes. This program encourages literature appreciation and communication skills.

Fun Friday
Fun Friday is a positive reward for students who receive the appropriate amount of points on their Friday Bulletin. The fourth grade team provides four rotations which include a movie, outdoor activities, indoor games, and art. Students who do not receive the appropriate amount of points on their bulletin will have to attend to study hall/detention.

Grading
Advanced
The student has a detailed and complete understanding of the information important to the content area (generalizations, concepts, facts).
The student can perform the skills, processes, and strategies important to the content areas without significant errors and with fluency. Additionally, the student understands the key features of the skills or processes.
Advanced students may be performing above grade level standards in some areas. Students at the Advanced level may also be demonstrating high levels of achievement within the grade level standards.
Upper grade students at this advanced level know and understand the content well enough to teach it to another student with clarity.

Proficient
The student has a complete and accurate understanding of the information important to the content area, but not in great depth or detail.
The student can perform the skills or processes important to the content area without making significant errors and with minimal prompting. Students at this level are considered to be solidly meeting grade level standards by state assessments.

Basic
The student has a partial understanding of the content area with some misconceptions about some of the information. The student makes errors when performing the skills or processes important to the content area and accomplishes a rough approximation of the skills and processes without substantial error. Students at this level are barely passing sections of the High School Exit Exam (HSEE) in English and mathematics. Their performance shows significant gaps in conceptual understanding.

Below-Basic
The student has very little understanding of the content area with many misconceptions or very incomplete understanding of concepts. The student is actually unable to perform the skills or processes important to the content area.
Students at this level require some kind of intervention plan including summer school or other forms of remediation. These students are NOT MEETING GRADE LEVEL STANDARDS and are candidates for retention in grades K-8.

Far Below-Basic
No detectable understanding, no detectable skills or processes, or students is performing one or more years below grade level standards.
Students at this level require some kind of intervention plan including summer school or other forms of remediation. These students are NOT MEETING GRADE LEVEL STANDARDS and are candidates for retention in grades K-8.
