Bulletins
Progress notices/bulletins will be sent home with your child's work attached. Progress notices will give you up-to-date information on how your child is doing in school. Please sign the progress notice and ensure that your child returns it by TUESDAY, along with any incomplete or makeup assignments noted in the progress notice. Progress notices not returned on time will cost 2 points from the 100 point club, each day, until it is returned.

100 Points Club
Each student will receive 115 points at the beginning of each month. During the month, students need to maintain 100 of the 115 points. At the end of the month, all students who do not drop below the 100 point mark will participate in the 100 point club activity chosen by the fifth grade teachers. Students who drop below 100 points will be attending detention in the classroom. Points are subtracted for missing or late class work or homework, as well as for inappropriate or disruptive behavior. New points will not be added at anytime.

Reading Counts
Each student is expected to read at least 20 minutes each night. We use Reading Counts in our classrooms, along with many other tools, to ensure that the students are held accountable for their reading. Reading Counts is a computer program that tests students on reading comprehension. Each classroom has a list of all Reading Counts books. There is also a complete list online. |
Field Trips
We will be going on many field trips this year to enhance our curriculum. Field Trips will be posted as they are scheduled. Some field trips are costly. We will ask for a donation fee from each student. If you cannot provide the fee please let us know. If you are able to help another child with the fee, please contact your teacher. We will also need parent drivers for our field trips. We can't go without your help! Please feel out the insurance forms (available in the office) prior to driving. Thank you for enriching your child's learning process.

Grading
Advanced
The student has a detailed and complete understanding of the information important to the content area (generalizations, concepts, facts).
The student can perform the skills, processes, and strategies important to the content areas without significant errors and with fluency. Additionally, the student understands the key features of the skills or processes.
Advanced students may be performing above grade level standards in some areas. Students at the Advanced level may also be demonstrating high levels of achievement within the grade level standards.
Upper grade students at this advanced level know and understand the content well enough to teach it to another student with clarity.
Proficient
The student has a complete and accurate understanding of the information important to the content area, but not in great depth or detail.
The student can perform the skills or processes important to the content area without making significant errors and with minimal prompting. Students at this level are considered to be solidly meeting grade level standards by state assessments.
Basic
The student has a partial understanding of the content area with some misconceptions about some of the information. The student makes errors when performing the skills or processes important to the content area and accomplishes a rough approximation of the skills and processes without substantial error. Students at this level are barely passing sections of the High School Exit Exam (HSEE) in English and mathematics. Their performance shows significant gaps in conceptual understanding.
Below-Basic
The student has very little understanding of the content area with many misconceptions or very incomplete understanding of concepts. The student is actually unable to perform the skills or processes important to the content area.
Students at this level require some kind of intervention plan including summer school or other forms of remediation. These students are NOT MEETING GRADE LEVEL STANDARDS and are candidates for retention in grades K-8.
Far Below-Basic
No detectable understanding, no detectable skills or processes, or students is performing one or more years below grade level standards.
Students at this level require some kind of intervention plan including summer school or other forms of remediation. These students are NOT MEETING GRADE LEVEL STANDARDS and are candidates for retention in grades K-8.
Modified Student is receiving modified assignments to meet their needs on a formal IEP. |
