Reflections Program Theme is "WOW!" 
Do you express your creativity through dance, music, story or poetry?  Do you dream of having your drawing displayed in a specific exhibit?  Do you enjoy taking photographs or videotaping your friends?  Then, participate in the PTA's Reflections Program.
This program gives students a great opportunity to display their individual talents in the categories of Visual Arts, Literature, Film/Video, Dance/choreography, or Musical Composition.  
All student participants and family members are invited to the Reflections recognition and award ceremony on October 16th at 6:30 pm in the auditorium.
Entry forms and rules are located in the Reflections box in the AOE office.   Submissions are due October 10th at the AOE office.

Please note:  To be eligible for the first drawing, your entries must be turned in by morning announcements on October 3rd. 

Gift Wrap Sales Have Begun
Gift wrap sales started September 26th and run through October 10th.  You received the ordering packets in your child's Eagle express this past Friday.   Take a look at the new and exciting vendor with lots of choices under $10.00.
Ask your child about the Lucky Ducky days coming on September 30th, and October 2nd, 7th, 9th.   Your long distance family members can now order online.  Just register your child and send them the link, click here to sign up.   If our school sells one item per student, we will earn a K-9 dog show for the entire school.  Please help support our school.  If you have any questions, contact Alicia Scaglione at 760 929 8677 or alicia4dkings@sbcglobal.net

Hauntapalooza Halloween Carnival
Friday, October 24th - 5:30 - 8:30 pm
Aviara Oaks Middle School Courtyard

Enjoy Ghoulish Games, Spooky Magic Show, Costume Parade, Webkinz Walk and BBQ Halloweiners!  Tickets will be on sale the week of October 20th after school and Thursday morning, October 23rd.  Tickets are $1 each.  Admission to carnival is only 1 ticket!  Please - No drop-offs - all children must be accompanied by an adult.  Questions? Restaurant "Day" October 8th
Please join us for our family fundraiser day at El Camino Real Grille on Wednesday, October 8th.  The ECR Grille is open 8am - 8pm for breakfast, lunch or dinner - Dine-in or Take-out.  They will donate 20% of your transaction to the AOE PTA, but remember you must present the flyer (click here) for our PTA to receive credit.

AOE Cookbook Update
Thanks to all of the AOE families and staff who submitted recipes for our 1st school cookbook.  The cookbook should be arriving before our 2-week break in December.  If you'd like to order a cookbook, please contact Penny LeMasters at thelemasters@sbcglobal.net
If you submitted a recipe and didn't put your name on it, please contact Penny LeMasters.  Otherwise, the recipe will be listed under Aviara Oaks Elementary School as the contributor.  Several were submitted without a name, so if you are unsure, please contact Penny and she will check for you.

It's Time to Join the PTA
Remember, with your membership, you not only join an association with over 2 million PTA members nationwide, but you also support one of the strongest child advocacy organizations operating at the local, state and national levels. In addition, you receive a complimentary copy of the AOE 2008 - 2009 student directory. (Non-member cost is $5). 

Last Chance for Spirit Wear
The final day to place your order for Pink T-shirts, Navy T-shirts and Navy Zip Front Hooded Sweatshirts is Friday, October 3rd.  Click here to download the Membership Package Order form.  The anticipated delivery date for Spirit Wear is late October.

SOS Update for Week 5
THANK YOU AOE Families! At the end of Week 5, we've collected nearly $38,000 in donations.  If you haven't done so yet - please donate today.  Your dollars have already been put to work!
Kinder Karate is going strong!  Grades 1-5 parents: Ask your children about the science labs conducted in their classrooms by Mrs. Wright and Mrs. Tomechak.  Ms. Bahr is busy teaching your 1st -3rd graders new games & skills in PE.  Grades 4-5:  We are actively searching for a qualified PE instructor right now!  And,  the music program is scheduled to start in early October. 
Please keep those donations coming.  We are closing in on our goal of raising $50,000 by Nov. 15th.   If you need a donation form, click here.  All donations are 100% tax deductible to the full extent of the law.

SOS Tiles
Your 2006-07 SOS tiles have been placed!  Stop by the Flag Pole and take a look at all the beautiful family tiles!  We are now ready to complete the 2007-08 SOS tiles.  If you made a donation of $300 or more, please contact Donna Costan at donnacostan@gmail.com to get your tile kit!  (Please note the email listed in the newsletter is incorrect.)

Free Family Movie Night
Don't miss our first FREE Family Movie Night of the School Year - Friday, October 3rd, at 6:30 pm. in the AOE Auditorium.  We will be showing Disney's family-friendly adventure "Snow Buddies," Rated G.  Pizza, fresh popcorn, drinks and other treats will be available for purchase.
Bring your blankets, pillows and lawn chairs.  All children must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Kids Korp Kickoff Meeting
Kids Korp USA, a non-profit youth volunteer organization that enables kids ages 5-18 to participate in community service projects, is returning to Aviara Oaks!  Our Kick-Off Event  is  October 6th at 2:30 -4:30 pm.  We will be making blankets for abused children in the San Diego Area.  Please contact Lisa Borgardt, if you would like to attend, at lisabo98@aol.com. Parent participation is required in all Kids Korp events.

Boxtops Raffle!
One lucky winner winner will receive a $25 Target gift card!  Everyone should have received a Halloween Boxtops form in their Eagle Express.  If not, click here for the form or attach 10 Boxtops to a plain sheet of paper with student name, grade and teacher on it.  Be sure to turn your form into your teacher or the AOE office by October 23, 2008.  Mrs. Huesing will select the lucky winner on the morning of Friday, October 24th!

Recycling
A giant thank you to all of the families who brought recyclables last week.  We got another $171 for specialty teachers at AOE.  Keep bringing those aluminum cans and CRV or CA Cash Refund plastic bottles and we'll make our $7000 goal in no time.

Upcoming Parent Project
Just a reminder that the Parent Project (English) will be starting on October 8th.  This class is for parents of difficult adolescents ages 11-18. If interested, contact Penny Velazquez at 760-931-2167.
Parent Project /Loving Solutions (Spanish) will be starting October 8th . This class is for parents of hard-to-handle children ages 5-10.  If interested, call Jovita Barria at 760-434-9099.

Carlsbad Fire Dept Open House
Carlsbad Fire Department invites all of its residents for an Open House on October 11th, from 10 am to 2 pm (Fire Station #5 2540 Orion Way).  There will be live demonstrations,  displays such as a paramedic unit and rescue helicopter, and health and safety tips.  For more information, click here.

Halloween Fun Run
The Body and Soul Foundation is hosting a Halloween Fun Run to promote awareness and prevention of childhood obesity at Pure Fitness Sports Center in Carlsbad on Saturday, October 25th from 9 to noon.  Kids between the ages of 2 and 12 are invited to come in costume and run a course ranging from 200 yards to one mile depending on the age of the participant.  Activities will include an obstacle course provided by Velocity Sport, entertainment, appearances by local celebrities and a health and nutrition expo.  For more information, click here.
